R&D is key to UK government’s ambition to create more scale-ups, business secretary tells meeting

Business secretary Grant Shapps says he plans to capitalise on the UK’s growing R&D sector to create a “Silicon Valley with a British edge”.

In a speech to business leaders in Davos on 19 January, the minister said there was “incredible scope” for the UK to “drive the tech revolution ourselves” but acknowledged that the UK “must do better” in converting startups to scale-ups.
