Corbyn defies calls to quit as Labour crisis deepens

Jeremy Corbyn has said he will not stand down as leader of the Labour Party, despite mass resignations from his shadow cabinet team including shadow business secretary Angela Eagle.

As of 2.30 pm on 27 June, More than 20 MPs had resigned from the shadow cabinet following the Brexit outcome of the referendum on the country’s membership of the European Union held on 23 June.

The resignations began after shadow foreign secretary Hilary Benn told Corbyn at midnight on 25 June that he no longer had confidence in his leader. Shadow business secretary Angela Eagle was one of the latest to go, tweeting her resignation letter shortly after noon on 27June.
