Former Brexit secretary’s free speech bill for backed in parliament

MPs have backed a bill to make it a legal requirement for universities to protect free speech on their campuses or face fines.

The bill, proposed by former Brexit secretary David Davis (pictured) in the House of Commons on 19 January, would “in effect make universities responsible for upholding free speech throughout their campuses”, Davis said.
