Funding system ‘still lacks agile funding’ after paying £1 billion for access EU scheme

The chair of the House of Commons’ Science and Technology Committee has questioned whether the UK’s membership of the EU Horizon Europe programme was the best use of billions of pounds for the research system.

In a 21 April committee session, Conservative MP Greg Clark (pictured) asked the president of the Royal Society, Adrian Smith, whether it would have been better to keep the billions now earmarked for the costs of joining the EU’s R&D programme for national funding bodies to allocate instead.
