Welsh government prioritises student and staff wellbeing

Tertiary education and research bill places new mental health duty on providers

A government-proposed amendment to the Welsh Tertiary Education and Research Bill—which has passed stage three in the Senedd—will require higher education providers to promote student and staff welfare.

The amendment, approved on 21 June, means that providers registered with the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales will be required to prove the effectiveness of their welfare policies. There is no equivalent duty on providers in England or Scotland.
