Boris Johnson has failed to deliver his promise to create science funding agency over summer

The government says it will establish a UK Arpa funding agency “as soon as possible”, after Boris Johnson’s self-imposed deadline for setting up the high-risk-high-reward research body passed unmentioned last week.

On 30 June Boris Johnson promised that “this summer we will be creating a new science funding agency”, inspired by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in the United States (pictured) and dubbed UK Arpa.
