Ian Campbell says loosening of restrictions could allow funder to operate in more dynamic way

The former head of the UK’s innovation agency has called for UK Research and Innovation, the national R&D funder, to have more independence from government.

In an exclusive interview with Research Professional News, Ian Campbell, who from May 2018 to November 2020 was interim executive chair of Innovate UK, which is part of UKRI, said he wanted to see the two-year-old funder given “the time it deserves to evolve”.
