ESRC promises more ‘inclusive’ environment for PhD students

Funder’s pledge follows report that found minority groups are underrepresented in doctoral training

The Economic and Social Research Council has promised to create a “diverse and inclusive research environment” for social science PhDs after a report uncovered underrepresentation among minority groups.

The ESRC announced on 6 December that it would ask institutions hosting doctoral training partnerships— training schemes organised by several higher education providers—to produce a strategy on equality, diversity and inclusion as part of their bids for funding.
