Research councils

Research England executive chair David Sweeney will step down when his five-year term ends next year, having decided not to seek reappointment. Sweeney is expected to stand down from the council in early 2022. A job advert for his replacement, posted by the business department on 11 November says the funder is looking for a “visible and credible leader” who will “provide direction, ensuring delivery research, skills, and infrastructure investments”.
