Jisc cracks down on ransomware attacks against universities

   

Organisation will automatically block remote access to university servers from outside UK

The UK higher education IT organisation Jisc has introduced measures to crack down on rising ransomware attacks against the sector.

According to Jisc, around half of major ransomware incidents in UK universities and research centres are caused by attackers exploiting the Remote Desktop Protocol (port 3389), which allows users to access university computers or servers remotely from another device.
