Postgraduate trainee teachers down by 23%

              

Government figures show contraction in teacher training recruitment after pandemic boost

There has been a 23 per cent fall in the number of postgraduates taking Initial Teacher Training, according to new data.

The Department for Education data, published on 1 December, reveal there were 23,224 postgraduate entrants to ITT in 2022-23, down from 30,093 in 2021-22. Undergraduate entrants were down 5 per cent to 5,767.
