‘Risk’ to UK research pipeline as EU student numbers plummet

University and student groups urge government to address cost and complexity of UK visa regime

Concerns have been raised over the UK’s future research workforce in light of “dramatic declines” in the number of European students attending British universities after Brexit.

Post-Brexit transitional measures that allowed students from EU member states to attend UK universities while paying the same tuition fees as domestic students and without needing a visa ended in 2021.
