Letter signed by 500 academics likens fossil fuel industry research funding to tobacco company tactics

Universities in the UK and the United States are being pressured by academics to stop accepting funds from fossil fuel companies, which they say “undermines the academic integrity of climate-related research”.

An open letter published on 21 March, signed by more than 500 experts, draws a parallel between accepting fossil fuel industry funding for climate research to accepting tobacco industry funding for public health research.
