UK universities call for ‘urgent action’ on EU funding gap

Gap in replacement for EU structural funds threatens over 160 university-led innovation and skills projects

As many as 164 university-led projects “could stall or stop” due to a “significant gap in funding” created by Brexit, the vice-chancellors group University UK has warned.

The EU funding for UK projects through European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) runs out by the end of next year, UUK has said, whereas the UK government’s full replacement funding through the Shared Prosperity Fund does not come into effect until 2024-25.
