Vice-chancellors want block grant to make up for lost EU funding

Universities UK says institutions need government grant to “cushion” likely loss of Horizon Europe funding

Universities should be allocated a “flexible block grant” to cushion the loss of European Union funding in the event the UK fails to associate to Horizon Europe, vice-chancellors’ group Universities UK has said.

Political disagreements continue to hold up UK association to the bloc’s €95.5 billion (£80.5bn) R&D programme. While the UK government has insisted it is still keen to be part of the programme it is also planning a “bold Plan B” if the UK does not associate.
