IFS: English and maths skills stuck despite rise in graduates

       

Reports find rising number of graduates in England, but poor growth in some skills

England has experienced stagnating skills in English and maths despite rising numbers of students going on to higher education, a report from the Institute for Fiscal Studies has found.

Research by the IFS published on 16 August showed that by 2020, more than 40 per cent of the working-age population in the UK had a degree compared with 15 per cent in the early 1990s.
