‘Mini budget’ prompts mixed response from research groups

University bodies and business representatives call for more support for research and students

Universities, businesses and industry bodies have given a mixed response to today’s ‘mini budget’, expressing optimism for innovation along with disappointment at the lack of support for students.

Among the plans, announced by chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng on 23 September, are a new £500 million fund designed to attract “billions of pounds of private investment” into the UK’s science and technology firms.
