UK to stop participating in European University Institute

Expert calls departure from prestigious international doctoral and postdoctoral centre a “reputational loss” for UK

The UK is set to leave the prestigious European University Institute as the government confirmed it could not reach an agreement for the country’s continued participation.

The EUI, based in Florence, Italy, is an international centre for doctoral and postdoctoral studies and research. From 1975, the UK participated in its governance and had provided grants for up to 20 postgraduate students at any one time.
