Proportion of firsts awarded falls for first time on record

Hesa data show proportion of top-class awards dipped to less than a third in 2021-22

The proportion of first-class degrees awarded by UK universities has fallen for the first time on record, official statistics have shown.

According to the first release of Higher Education Statistics Agency student data for the 2021-22 academic year, 32 per cent of undergraduate degrees were classified as firsts in 2021-22, down from 35 per cent in 2019-20 and 36 per cent in 2020-21.
