Net zero scale-up

A major review of the UK’s ability to achieve net zero says that the country should “do more” to speed up growth of net zero R&D. The wide-ranging review from former science minister Chris Skidmore, published on 13 January, makes 100 recommendations—from business engagement and R&D to delivering more energy-efficient homes. Skidmore said the UK should be “proud” of its leadership in areas such as clean technologies, science, manufacturing and green finance, but added that it “remains at low technology readiness levels”. He called for clearer strategic direction of net zero R&D, more rapid scale-up of technologies and “more agile” regulation.
