Russell Group says Academic Technology Approval Scheme backlog risks putting researchers off the UK

Delays to a visa vetting scheme are causing researchers to pull out of key projects and putting the UK’s ambition to be a science superpower at risk, universities have warned.

The Russell Group of research-intensive universities said on 8 March that “severe delays” in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s Academic Technology Approval Scheme are “endangering research in vital areas such as medicine, engineering and computer science, and undermining the UK’s science superpower ambitions”.
