Support for libraries is overdue

As public libraries are threatened with budget cuts and closure, universities should take a firmer stance to save them, says James Brooks.

Here are two predictions for 2017. One, the decline of the UK’s public libraries will become terminal. Two, the UK’s universities, and the people who run them, will do nothing to stop it.

Or rephrased: the places that educate the elite will abandon the places that educate everyone.
