UKRI recognises and is acting on the need to make doctoral training more diverse

Under the headline “UKRI’s PhD criteria ‘biased against marginalised groups’”, Research Fortnight reported on an open letter highlighting the barriers that prevent people from diverse backgrounds accessing doctoral training. 

We share the concerns of the letter’s authors. We accept that, as in wider society, there is deep, structural inequality in research. There is a vital role for organisations including UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to play, working hand in hand with our partners.
