On 14 May, Research Professional News broke the story that the University of Manchester had “discontinued” a £2.5 million gift agreement with Greensill Capital. The donation from the now-collapsed company at the heart of the Whitehall lobbying row was to have funded a chair in the burgeoning ‘finance technology’ (or fintech) sector, two lecturers, two post-docs and four PhD scholarships over five years.
