The inaugural director of breakthrough-focused Arpa-H outlines her priorities on the US agency’s first anniversary

Not many people get the chance to set up a brand new research funding agency. So Renee Wegrzyn, the inaugural director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, is something of a rarity.

Wegrzyn took the reins at Arpa-H in October, having formerly worked at the agency’s role model Darpa, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Immediately before taking the top job, she was a senior leader at the US biotech firm Ginkgo Bioworks.
