Report finds chemical assessment ground to a halt after sidelining of career scientists under Trump
Democrats have said the administration of former US president Donald Trump interfered with a chemical assessment programme at the US Environmental Protection Agency, and have urged the new EPA leadership under Joe Biden’s administration to reverse Trump-era policy changes.
A report by the Government Accountability Office, published on 19 January, found that the Integrated Risk Information System (Iris), a programme under the EPA’s Office of Research and Development that has been running since 1985, had ground to a halt since changes were made in 2018.
