Animal rights activists sue NIH, alleging it censored comments

Columbia University institute is part of legal team for plaintiffs

Animal rights activists have filed a lawsuit against the United States’ top biomedical research agency, the National Institutes of Health, alleging that it infringed their right to free speech by pre-emptively blocking some of their comments from its social media pages.

Columbia University’s Knight First Amendment Institute, which is part of the activists’ legal team, said on 9 September that critical comments were missing from Facebook and Instagram pages run by the NIH.
