Democrats welcome Biden’s picks for top roles in his administration

High-profile appointments are pending Senate approval

Congressional Democrat politicians have welcomed US president-elect Joe Biden’s choices for various senior posts in his forthcoming administration, many of which require Senate approval.

Biden has nominated Miguel Cardona, who taught education at the University of Connecticut before serving as the state’s education commissioner, as his education secretary. Patty Murray, the highest-ranking Democrat in the Senate education committee, said Cardona was “an excellent choice”.
