Biden asks Congress to go big on R&D spending in 2022

President’s budget request seeks funds to set up research agencies for climate and health

United States president Joe Biden has sent his first budget request to Congress, asking for big increases in R&D spending across government departments in fiscal year 2022 as well as funding for two new agencies for climate and health research.

Following up on the president’s recent infrastructure plan, which promises hundreds of billions of dollars for R&D by 2030, the 2022 budget request kicks off the annual process of determining US government spending.
