Ethics must underpin AI, says World Health Organization

   

Artificial intelligence policies must protect human autonomy and ensure transparency and inclusiveness, UN agency says

The World Health Organization has said that ethics must be the foundation for the design and use of artificial intelligence technologies, in guidance aimed at health ministries, AI regulators and technology developers.

“Like all new technology, AI holds enormous potential for improving the health of millions of people around the world, but like all technology it can also be misused and cause harm,” warned WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
