International collaboration lifts Menat region’s share of global publication outputs

Researchers in the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey are increasingly making their presence felt in global systems, with publications from the region rising twentyfold since 1981, according to a report from the Institute for Scientific Information.

While the so-called Menat region has increased its clout in R&D on the international stage, there are huge differences between countries, exacerbated by multiple conflicts and crises in recent decades, and the ISI report’s authors highlight the lack of regional R&D systems that would accelerate progress.
