Centres will be tasked with building renewable energy capacity

Norway has announced that it will invest millions of euros in the creation of eight new research centres that are to be charged with investigating solar energy, battery technology and carbon capture. The aim is to diversify the Norwegian energy sector beyond its traditional focus on oil and gas exploration.

“We cannot achieve our ambitious climate and energy goals without investing in R&D. I have great expectations for the new centres,” energy minister Terje Aasland said.
