How Cost Action networks function and how they can boost careers
- You must work in an EU member state to lead a Cost Action but not to participate in one.
- Cost Actions serve as useful ways for early career researchers to get involved in EU project bids.
- As an individual you can join a Cost Action at any time, but it is easiest to do so in its early days.
- Success rates for Cost Action applications are likely to improve in Horizon Europe.
The European Cooperation in Science and Technology, known as Cost, is a European Union funding organisation that creates research networks across Europe, called Cost Actions. During Horizon 2020, the EU’s R&D funding programme for 2014-20, 669 Action networks were active and more than 60 networks were created each year.
