Manchester MPs ask for leniency in restrictions while Nottinghamshire students are fined for parties

Manchester MPs have asked the government keep hospitality venues in the city open, saying a surge is Covid-19 cases is largely confined to student halls.

The plea came as the government prepared to announce tighter restrictions on freedom in cities across England to bring surging coronavirus case numbers under control.
