UCU strikes back

The University and College Union has confirmed the details of a three-day strike next month

It took a little longer than expected, but at 4pm yesterday we finally got the detail on the University and College Union’s opening strike gambit. Fifty-eight universities will be hit by three days of strike action, running from Wednesday 1 to Friday 3 December.

The strikes, as Playbook readers know only too well, are taking place because of union opposition to Universities Superannuation Scheme reforms proposed by employers, and a separate dispute over pay and working conditions. UCU general secretary Jo Grady insists they can still be avoided if employers “get round the table and take staff concerns…seriously”.
