It’s time for Jeremy Hunt’s financial statement, plus a Hepi report on student belonging
Today is gonna be the day, as professor Liam Gallagher memorably once told us. We will find out later today what’s in store for universities and research in the chancellor’s autumn statement.
The thing to look out for in the speech to be delivered in the Commons before midday is mention of a commitment to a £20 billion investment in R&D by 2024-25. If it does not warrant a mention from Jeremy Hunt at the dispatch box, then we will have to rummage among the budget appendices to find out what has happened to that pledge.
