Are students increasingly in favour of a more cautious approach to free speech?
This morning, the Higher Education Policy Institute publishes poll results that show an increase in the proportion of students who feel universities are becoming less tolerant of a wide range of viewpoints.
In 2016, 24 per cent held this opinion; in 2022, it has risen to 38 per cent—and this view is considerably more common among male students (51 per cent of those polled) than female students (28 per cent), the Hepi results show.
