Assaf urged to rescind text ‘encouraging’ self-censorship

   

Report tells South African academy to clarify stance on scientific freedom of expression

The Academy of Science of South Africa has been urged to “rescind” a report published in 2018 which includes language that could be construed as “encouraging scientific self-censorship”.

The call comes in the South Africa Covid-19 Country Report, published on 30 June, which summarises South Africa’s response during the first year of the pandemic.
