Concern is mounting over monitoring of researchers by intelligence agencies and others

The news that the Australian Research Council is collating what it describes as “sensitivity files” on Australian academics drew a terse, and immediate, response from the national union for university employees.

Speaking with Research Professional News, Alison Barnes, the national president of the National Tertiary Education Union, flagged the group’s “real concerns around potential threats to research integrity and academic freedom”.
