University of Tasmania to rethink Sandy Bay campus move

Majority of locals vote against planned shift of facilities to Hobart in council poll

The University of Tasmania has cancelled some of its plans to move campus facilities closer to Hobart, after a poll of local citizens revealed strong opposition to the move.

The poll was included as a question in October’s local council elections. Voters were asked: “Do you support the University of Tasmania’s proposal to relocate the Sandy Bay campus into Hobart’s central business district?”
