Tasmanian parliament to examine university’s legislation amid disquiet over move to new site
A parliamentary inquiry has been ordered into rules at the University of Tasmania, following concerns over a range of issues including its workplace culture.
A select committee will look at the UTAS Act—which covers the university’s “constitution, functions and powers”—the setup of its council and senate, and whether the act has appropriate provisions for executive, financial and academic decision making. Academic freedom will also be a focus.
