Macron launches funds for ‘bright green’ future

France 2030 plan for industrial growth pledges €8 billion for nuclear, hydrogen and decarbonisation research

France’s president Emmanuel Macron has launched a funding strategy to make French energy production more sustainable, including support for research into hydrogen and small nuclear reactors.

Macron announced the plan during a speech on 12 October. He said the plan, which places technological and industrial development at the centre of the country’s response to climate change, was the result of many months of collective work by a range of people including “students, researchers, academics, trade unions and entrepreneurs”.
