French university year begins with restive unions calling for end to online teaching
France’s “rentrée”—academia’s return to research and teaching after the long summer break—will be marked by protest, a higher education union has warned.
The Snesup-FSU union, which represents university staff, has filed a strike notice for 23 September to protest against research minister Frédérique Vidal’s plan for how the return to on-campus teaching will look. The strike will also involve members of other unions, including the SUD and CGT federations representing regional academics, who will down their teaching tools in solidarity.
