CNRS warns of potentially catastrophic decline in maths

                         

France needs national strategy to rehabilitate subject in academia, says organisation’s president

The president of the CNRS, France’s largest public research organisation, has said that a decline in teaching and the practice of mathematics in France is “very worrying and will be catastrophic” if no action is taken.

Antoine Petit called on the government to implement “a national strategy to rehabilitate mathematics in the educational and academic system, as well as society in general”.
