Commission publishes criteria for assessing possible R&D missions

Missions to be judged on ‘clear research and innovation content’ and plausibility of timeframe

The European Commission has published the criteria it will use to decide which missions to incorporate into the EU’s 2021-27 R&D programme, Horizon Europe.

Missions are intended to increase the real-world impact of Horizon Europe, as well as public support for it. Advisers have proposed missions in five areas—healthy waters, adaptation to climate change, cancer, climate-neutral cities, and soil health—and the Commission will decide in the summer which should be adopted.
