Board calls for assessment of all options for ownership of European Innovation Council fund

The board of the European Innovation Council has lambasted the European Commission for its management of EIC investments in companies, blaming the EU institution for “major delays” and expressing “frustration” at missed opportunities.

After a pilot phase, the EIC became a fully fledged funder of technology development and company growth under the EU’s 2021-27 research and innovation programme, Horizon Europe. But while its grants have flowed as planned, expected equity-based investments in dozens of companies have been delayed by about a year.
