Plan S funders to consider their role in publishing

Impact and activities of open-access initiative will be reviewed amid shifts in publishing landscape

The open-access initiative Plan S has revealed it is considering its future role given that the scholarly publishing landscape is shifting towards achieving its founding aims.

Plan S was set up in 2018 to deliver full and immediate open access to publicly funded research papers by the end of 2024. Since then, an increased amount of research is being published with open access, the group said in a 2022 annual report it published on 1 March.
