University group calls for more patient decision-making power over use of health data for research

A European Commission proposal to open up EU health data for activities including research does not give patients enough decision-making power, a university group has warned.

“We must maximise the potential of collaboration and the exchange of patient data for research purposes if the patients consent to it,” the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities said in a statement on 4 May.
