Government releases funds for Irish open research

But budget is just “tip of the iceberg” of what is needed, universities say

The Irish government is going to spend €1.7 million to improve open-access publication and data storage across the country.

The money is meant to “support the uptake and implementation of open research practices in Irish higher education institutions and the wider Irish research system”, the research ministry said. The announcement was welcomed by Ireland’s National Open Research Forum (NORF), a group established in 2017 to drive the country’s open research agenda.
