Restrictions on genetic modification are holding Dutch and EU biotechnology back, report says
A report drawn up by an alliance of Dutch biotechnology companies has called for the “modernisation” of laws surrounding genetic modification, including EU legislation.
The report, published by the employers’ organisation VNO-NCW, asks the Dutch government to put a revision of genetic modification laws on the European agenda. EU legislation in this area, which dates back to the 1990s, is not adapted to the latest methods in the field such as the genome-editing technology Crispr-Cas9, it says.
